Baseball Comes Up Short at Alice Lloyd 2-1

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville baseball team's four-game winning streak was snapped on Tuesday, losing at Alice Lloyd 2-1.

It took five innings for any offense to appear when Alan Silva roped a two-out RBI double to put the Eagles in front before adding another run when Silva stole third and ultimately scored on a wild throw on a pick-off attempt at first.

All the Bears (14-10) could come up with the rest of the way was one run in the seventh on a Mike Peluffo single, plating Connor Osborne who had reached on a single as well.

But Jared Slone was stranded at third twice, with two outs in both the seventh and ninth innings, on a fly out and pop out, respectively.

UPIKE outhit Alice Lloyd, but hurt its chances with a pair of errors. While it led the game at the plate, only Peluffo finished with multiple hits, going 3-4 with an RBI. Eric Tucker tallied the only extra-base hit with a double.

Josh Bailey took the loss on the mound (1-2) after allowing two runs on four hits in five innings with four strikeouts. Josh Antwine got the win after scattering six hits for one run in eight innings as Broderick Moore earned the one-inning save after giving up just one hit and hitting a batter in the ninth.
