Baseball Falls to IU-Pennsylvania 5-3 on Soggy Day

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Aaron Hedgecock cooled the Indiana-Pennsylvania bats with two shutout innings of relief, but it wasn't enough to rally the University of Pikeville baseball team as it lost 5-3 on Saturday at Johnnie LeMaster Field.

The second game of the doubleheader with the Crimson Hawks was canceled due to rain. To make up for the missed innings, the teams will play two nine-inning games on Sunday starting at 11 a.m. ET.

Matt Douglas recorded the win for IU-Pennsylvania (5-5). He allowed three runs over three innings with four strikeouts and three walks while scattering five hits.

Chris Schaedel, Wes Carson and Dan Sepic paced the Crimson Hawks at the plate, combining for six hits and three RBIs.

Dalton Dahley took the loss on the mound for the Bears (9-4) despite striking out six batters in five innings. He ended up allowing five runs on 10 hits.

UPIKE took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with a single by second baseman Erik Manning that plated third baseman Travis Haen.

But the Crimson Hawks' lead was never seriously threatened after the fourth when they scored three runs on a fielder's choice and two singles.

Shortstop Jacob DiThomas was the only UPIKE player with multiple hits, going 2 for 4. All six of the Bears' hits were singles, however they did reach base four times for being hit by Douglas.
