PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Friday's Mid-South Conference tilt with Georgetown ended a little sooner than expected as the University of Pikeville baseball team brought the run-rule into play with a 10-run lead after seven innings.
The Bears got hot in the seventh with five runs on five hits to bring the game to a close with a 12-2 lead on Jay Vincent's RBI groundout that scored Erik Manning.
It's the first double-digit winning margin for UPIKE (17-12, 7-3 MSC) in conference play since beating Lindsey Wilson 13-2 in 2008.
UPIKE's game-ending seventh included a pair of two-run hits, including a double from Justin Beatty and a triple by Erik Manning before Vincent's groundout did the rest of the damage.
Manning racked up four RBIs on a 4-for-4 showing at the plate, while designated hitter Anthony Roberts went 2 for 2 with a two walks.
Dalton Dahley (4-4)Â recorded the win on the mound after allowing just two runs over six innings. He struck out three batters, walked two and scattered six hits.
Joe Fernandez (4-3)Â couldn't get it done on the bump for Georgetown, lasting just four innings after walking six batters and allowing five runs on five hits.
UPIKE grabbed a lead it would never relinquish in the first inning, plating Travis Haen on Manning's sacrifice fly. Â
After the early momentum, the Bears added two-run boosts in the third, fifth and sixth innings to lead 7-2 heading into the seventh. Georgetown did its scoring in the fourth and fifth, plating one run in each frame.
No Tigers had multiple hits as they were outhit 13-6 by UPIKE which played error free in all seven innings. Georgetown's Chaz Meadows and Hector Marmol drove in the two runs with an RBI each. Â
