Baseball Loses Lead on No. 19 Campbellsville Late in 9-5 Loss

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville baseball team lost a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning as No. 19 Campbellsville got hot late with two runs in the eighth inning and four more in the ninth to grab a 9-5 win on Friday at Johnnie LeMaster Field.

Josh Bailey racked up two RBIs on four hits to lead the Bears, tallying base hits in the first, fourth, seventh and ninth innings.

Justin Phllips grabbed the one-inning win on the mound after allowing just one hit in relief of starter Nick Przybylek. UPIKE's Logan Sales took the loss after failing to secure the save in the eighth, scattering seven hits for six runs with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

Campbellsville's (29-11, 11-5 MSC) Romello Carbuccia, Casey Scott, Riley Joyce and Cameron Ketchon combined for 10 hits and six RBIs in the win.

The Tigers grabbed an early 2-0 lead after Scott doubled to start things off, allowing a Ketchon single to bring him home, followed by an RBI double from Richard Ramirez in the second inning.

It didn't take long for UPIKE (21-18, 9-7 MSC) to answer though as Eric Tucker got it on the board with a second-inning sacrifice fly before scoring three go-ahead runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Daniel Sterenberg and two-RBI single by Bailey.

Campbellsville cut the deficit to one run in the sixth before going up for good in the eighth, scoring two runs on an RBI double by Jacob Carrera and an RBI triple by Carbuccia.

The Tigers added four insurance runs in the ninth as Joyce singled, scoring Scott, followed by Carbuccia's two-run double. UPIKE got one run back in the bottom of the inning on a double by Travis Haen, but the damage had already been done.
