PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville softball team assured itself of a top-four seed in the Mid-South Conference Tournament with a run-rule sweep of Cumberland (Tenn.) on Saturday, winning 8-0 and 12-4 in five innings each at Paul Butcher Field.
Postseason play is set to begin on April 29 at Michael O. Buchanan Park in Bowling Green, Ky. UPIKE will be the No. 4 seed and take on fifth-seeded St. Catharine in the first round of the MSC Tournament.

UPIKE 8, Cumberland 0 (5 inn.)
A five-run explosion in the fifth inning helped UPIKE to an 8-0 shutout win in game one.
The Bears (18-25, 12-16 MSC) scored the runs on two errors, a two-run double by Logan Cline and another two-run double by Destiny Molden.
Cline finished the game with two extra-base hits, driving in three runs and scoring one herself with a pair of doubles
Lindsay Floyd earned the win in the circle after five shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out a pair of batters.
Molden, Courtney Morgan, Hollie Hinkle and Cline combined for eight hits and six RBIs to lead the Bears.
The game ended up being decided in the second inning when Cline ripped an RBI double to score Hinkle and the Phoenix never scored again. UPIKE tacked on some insurance with two more runs in the third as Morgan's double plated Molden, followed by Breana Pineda scoring Morgan with a double of her own.
Kristen Abell ended up with the loss for Cumberland (13-31, 9-19 MSC) after allowing eight runs on 12 hits with two strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

UPIKE 12, Cumberland 4 (5 inn.)
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, UPIKE scored a combined nine runs in the second and third frames to take control of the game on its way to a 12-4 run-rule win.
Scoring in the six-run third started on a bases-loaded walk by Hinkle, followed by a two-run error and a three-run home run by Mackenzie Summers to make it 9-4.
Summers ended up with three RBIs on two hits, while Pineda went 3 for 4 with a home run to lead the Bears.
Alexandra Quill got the win, allowing four runs on nine hits over six innings. Nicole Pratt was stuck with the loss after scattering eight hits for nine runs with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
Already up 10-4, UPIKE increased its lead with two runs in the sixth to end the game. Hinkle kicked things off with an RBI single, followed by Summers with an RBI single as well to bring home Ashonda Underwood.
