ASBURY, Ky. -- Josh Bailey was smooth on the mound and a terror at the plate and Eric Tucker sent off a solo home run as the University of Pikeville baseball team sprinted past Asbury 7-1 on Tuesday in a non-conference road matchup.
Bailey scattered three hits for one run in six innings of work with five strikeouts before handing the game over to the bullpen. He was also his own best friend at the plate, going 3 for 4 with an RBI, two runs scored and stealing a base.
Left fielder Eric Tucker also shined for the Bears (19-13), hitting his first career home run as part of a five-run sixth inning. Catcher Cody Stinnett chipped in with two hits, including a double, while also scoring a run and drawing a walk.
UPIKE opened the scoring with one run in the first inning on an RBI single by Erik Manning. The Eagles fired right back in the second though, with a single by Morgan Sheets to shallow right field to score Andrew Moran.
But Bailey -- along with single innings from relievers Logan Sales, Bryce Carden and A.J. Carkner -- didn't allow Asbury (19-12) to score again. With the Eagles' bats shut down, Anthony Roberts was able to put the Bears in front for good with a sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Jacob DiThomas.
The only other runs to score were UPIKE's five spot in the sixth inning which opened with the leadoff blast to left field by Tucker. DiThomas and Bailey added RBI singles, while DiThomas eventually scored on a wild pitch and Bailey followed soon after on a passed ball. Â
