RICHMOND, Ind. -- For just the second time this season, the University of Pikeville volleyball team was shut out 3-0, falling to Franklin in its final match of the Quaker Classic on Sunday.
UPIKE battled to a 25-23 loss in the opening set before dropping 25-17 and 25-20 losses in the second and third sets to end it. The loss comes despite the Bears outhitting Franklin .154 to .121. The difference came down to getting set up on offense as Franklin tallied 116 attacks, compared to just 91 for the Bears.
Connor Cook finished with a match-high eight kills, but she didn't have much help as the next two high attackers were Sydney Hall and Kaitlyn Welsh with five kills each. Rachel Murphy dished out 13 assists, Amari Eadie had three blocks and Natalias Goscot found 21 digs to lead UPIKE in the loss.
Franklin got seven kills from both Amanda Lelivelt and Lauren Harmon while also getting three blocks from Lelivelt and a match-best 16 assists from setter Ashley Bazier. It was also a rare match where UPIKE had less aces than its opponent at 5-2.
