Bernabeu Lifts Men’s Soccer Over Georgetown 1-0

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Sometimes in soccer all it takes as one, and that was never more evident than in the University of Pikeville's 1-0 win at Georgetown as Eric Bernabeu found the back of the net in the 72nd minute to lift the Bears to a 1-0 win on Saturday.

Georgetown outshot UPIKE 16-14 overall, but the teams tied with nine shots on goal each. Bernabeu's just happened to be the only one to find the back of the net. Matthew Oster finished with eight saves in goal for the Tigers, but Bernabeu handed him the loss as one of his two shots on the night scored.

Anibal Navarro continued his stellar play in goal for UPIKE, tallying the clean sheet with nine saves in a full 90 minutes of work.

Max Isenberg paced UPIKE with a game-high five shots, followed by Harry Hill with four. On the other side, Nick Gregory took four shots to lead Georgetown as it fell to 1-3-2 overall with the loss. For UPIKE (3-3) and Georgetown, this was the Mid-South Conference opener for both.

Georgetown will no doubt feel like it missed out on some chances as it held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks and was whistled offside three times. But for UPIKE, this makes three wins over the Tigers in the last four years and gives it much needed momentum heading into more MSC play next week.

UP NEXT

UPIKE will have a quick turnaround as it stays in conference play, hosting No. 19 Cumberland (Tenn.) at 3 p.m. ET on Monday at the Box Amos Complex.
