Isenberg Lifts Men’s Soccer Over Shawnee State 2-1

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Senior Max Isenberg scored goals three minutes apart in the 17th and 20th minutes, which ended up being enough to get the University of Pikeville men's soccer team past Shawnee State 2-1 on Friday night at the Bob Amos Complex.

The win is UPIKE's first of the season in Mid-South Conference play, improving its record to 3-11-1 overall and 1-6 in league play. Shawnee State drops to 2-16 overall and 0-7 in the MSC with the loss.

Caspar Nolte got SSU on the board in the 42nd, but neither team would score again the rest of the way as UPIKE goalkeeper Anibal Navarro helped ensure the win with four saves.

Isenberg led UPIKE with three shots, placing all three on target, while Eric Bernabeu chipped in with two. Shawn Ramos finished with an assist as he dropped the cross into the box for Isenberg's second goal.

Nolte matched Isenberg with three shots to lead SSU and four others took one shot each. Matthew Boreman collected a game-high five saves as he played a full 90 minutes in goal.

Corner kicks went UPIKE's way 8-4 as did shots at 10-7, including a 7-5 lead in shots on goal.

Pikeville has one more regular-season contest as it hosts Hiwassee at 5 p.m. ET on Monday.
