GAME NOTES: UPIKE at Warner

SCOUTING THE ROYALS: This is the first meeting between UPIKE and Warner as the Royals are coming off a 49-34 loss at home against Faulkner. That loss snapped a two-game winning streak, which were the only back-to-back wins of the season for Warner. The Royals rank 14th nationally in total defense, allowing just 329.9 yards per game, but offense has been a different story, ranking 55th nationally with 351.8 yards gained per contest.

Warner's offensive attack is built on balance, rushing for 168.1 yards and throwing for 183.6 per game. D.J. Davis has started all eight games at quarterback, throwing for 1,265 yards and six touchdowns, but also throwing seven interceptions. He completes over 55 percent of his throws, but the passing attack has been mainly for short yardage. Davis is also the team's leading rusher, gaining 63.6 yards per game while averaging over 18 rushes a game. Bryant Benton is the home run threat from the backfield, gaining 6.2 yards per carry with a long run of 68 yards.

X MARKS THE SPOT IN THE RECORD BOOK: With his 257 rushing yards at Union two weeks ago, Xondre Willis turned in the most yards in a single game in program history. The previous best was 254 by Leonard Moore back in 2003. Willis averaged a whopping 18.4 yards per carry in that loss as he topped 1,000 career rushing yards and raised his career touchdown total to eight. The Belfry product is UPIKE's leading rusher this season with 848 yards, which is good for 6.9 yards on average when he touches the ball.

BROWN GETS HONOR: Taeron Brown was named the MSC Appalachian Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after registering 18 tackles in the loss against Reinhardt. That total is the second most in a game by a Bear in program history.

UPIKE IN THE NAIA: The Bears rank 27th nationally in points per game at 32.9 and have the 38th best rushing attack, gaining 179.2 yards per game. As an offense, UPIKE is 45th in the NAIA at 384.1 yards per game. However, the defense is 70th in the NAIA, allowing 430 yards a game and the Bears are the 14th most penalized team with 80.3 yards lost to penalties per contest.

Romon Morris is seventh in total interceptions with five, Xondre Willis ranks 26th in rushing yards per contest at 94.2 and Taeron Brown is seventh in tackles per game at 9.9. Punter William Chandler's 37.7 yards per attempt are the 30th best mark in the NAIA.

THE SCHEDULE AHEAD: After today's road game, the Bears will have senior day left as they play against Bluefield (Va.) on Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. ET in the regular-season finale.

HOLLAND ONE WIN FROM RECORD: With his next win, UPIKE head coach Allan Holland Jr., will become the school's all-time wins leader with 23. He is currently tied for the record with Jerry Mynatt. Mynatt led the Bears to their only NAIA Playoff appearance in 2005, while Holland Jr., got the school its first conference championship last season.
