WISE, Va. – The University of Pikeville men's tennis team lost just one singles match and one doubles match as it took care of UVa.-Wise 7-2 on the road Saturday.
All but one of UPIKE's victories came in straight sets as Pedro Azevedo needed a 10-point tie breaker to decide the No. 1 seed singles match. There he topped Andrii Rutnytskyi 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2).
Wise's only singles win came at the fifth seed where Daniel Laughlin shot past Kenton Hall 6-0, 6-2.
Juan Reyes had the easiest time with the Cavaliers, beating Chris Armistead 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 seed, while Jorge Mejia used a tiebreak in the second set to top John Hamilton at No. 6 6-3, 7-6 (6).
Daniel Laughlin and John Hamilton registered a win for Wise at No. 3 doubles, beating Hall and Mejia 8-3, but the other two doubles points went UPIKE's way.
The Bears are back in action in Berea on Sunday, facing Brescia first at 10 a.m. ET, followed by a match with Berea at 3 p.m.
