COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville softball team was outhit a combined 19-6 as it took a pair of shutout losses at eighth-ranked Lindsey Wilson on Sunday, falling 9-0 in five innings and 4-0.
Lindsey Wilson was up just 3-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth in the opener when it added six runs to its lead and kept the Bears scoreless in the next frame to record the early win. Casey Bryan allowed just one hit in five innings with six strikeouts to pick up the win in the circle.
UPIKE's Hannah Thacker scattered 11 hits for nine runs with a strikeout and a walk as her defense committed three errors. Kitty Raymond recorded the lone hit for Pikeville (6-14, 0-4 MSC) as she was its only player to reach base safely as Bryan did not allow a walk.
Callum Pilgrim went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double to lead the Blue Raiders (16-7, 4-0 MSC).
Lindsey Wilson spread out its scoring in game two, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning, adding another run in the fourth and finally tallying a pair in the sixth while keeping the Bears quiet at the plate again.
Taylor Slade went the distance for the Blue Raiders, securing another shutout with five hits allowed and striking out three. Jillian Bohnert got to her the most with two hits, while Raymond, Logan Cline and Destiny Molden added a hit each.
Abby Whelan matched Pilgrim from game one with a 3-for-3 showing with a double to lead LWC.
Alexandra Quill took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts.
UPIKE had its best chance to score in the fourth when three straight one-out singles loaded the bases, but Raymond was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice and Carrie Griffin grounded out to second to end the threat.
