Box Score 2 BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville softball team lost 9-1 in six innings and 14-6 in five innings at Union in a pair of midweek contests on Thursday.
The Bears drop to 6-8 overall with the losses, while the Bulldogs improve to 7-12 with the help of four straight wins.
Union started the scoring in the opener with three runs in the second inning on three wild pitches before adding three more in the third on three hits. UPIKE didn't get on the board until the fifth inning when a single run made it 8-1, but Union was able to bring the game to an early close with an RBI double in the sixth to get to an eight-run lead.
Tied 4-4 heading into the fourth inning of game two, the Bulldogs broke things open when they sent 13 batters to the plate in a busy frame that saw them score eight runs.
With Union leading 12-4 going into the fifth inning, the Bears scored a pair of runs in the top half before Union brought the game to a close with two more runs of its own in the bottom of the frame to get to the final 14-6 score.
