PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville men's soccer team outshot Milligan (Tenn.) 11-7, but the Buffaloes put more on target, coming away with a 3-0 win on Friday night at the Bob Amos Complex.
Milligan (1-4-1) struck first in the 14th minute off a free kick from just outside the penalty box.
Francisco Quiteno was whistled for a push a foot off the line and Leonardo Guiaro took advantage with a perfect rolling shot into the back right corner of the net. It ended up being the only goal scored in the half.
After the break, Josh Willard scored the first of his two second-half goals in the 54th minute when a long through ball made it onto his feet inside the box for the simple finish. Seven minutes later he did all the work himself, dribbling down the left side of the field for the goal in the left corner.
Despite outshooting the Buffaloes, UPIKE (0-3) trailed 4-3 in shots put on goal and wasn't able to take advantage of a 3-1 lead in corner kicks as well. Anibal Navarro made one save in a full 90 minutes in goal.
Nick Smith collected three saves for Milligan as Max Isenberg tried to apply pressure with a game-high four shots. Willard and Jack Allen both finished with two shots to lead the Buffaloes.
