PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville women's basketball team will look to upset the nation's third-ranked team and the Bear men will look to snap a two-game skid against an opponent with similar issues when UPIKE heads to Campbellsville on Thursday.
Tip off for the women is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, with the men's game to follow at 8 p.m. The CU Sports Network will have live video of both games, while Z1075 FM locally in Pikeville will have radio coverage of the men's game with Joe Kinzer calling the action.
UPIKE has lost five straight women's games, but had then-No. 12 Lindsey Wilson sweating late in an eight-point game on Saturday. Now, the Bears can try to complete an upset against Campbellsville which stayed put at No. 2 in the poll. UPIKE's men are 1-2 to open Mid-South Conference play after a 16-0 start, causing a six-spot drop to No. 12 in the latest rankings. Campbellsville dropped even further, ending up falling out of the rankings after opening league play with an 0-3 mark.
The Bears and Tigers are meeting for the 77th time on the women's side with Campbellsville holding a 68-8 lead. UPIKE had lost 18 straight before taking down the Tigers 74-71 at home during the 2014-15 season. Currently, the Tigers are on a four-game winning streak in the series. The Bears' last win came on Feb. 12, 2015 behind 29 points from Khalilah Quigley in the East Ky. Expo Center.
On the men's side, this is the 111th meeting with Pikeville holding a 63-47 lead in the series. UPIKE has won the last five, last losing on Nov. 22, 2014 in Campbellsville. In the Powell Athletic Center, the Tigers are 24-22 against Pikeville, but since 2011, UPIKE owns an 8-2 record with both losses coming on the road. UPIKE head coach Kelly Wells is 15-8 against the Tigers in his 12 seasons at the school.
