ASHLAND, Va. -- The University of Pikeville women's tennis team took care of business on Thursday, beating Virginia Union 6-3 on the road.
Traveling with just five players, the Bears opened the match down 2-0 with forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. But of the seven matches that were played out, UPIKE won six of them.
That includes wins in both doubles spots. Samantha Fraser and Cailee Marcum won 8-2 at the No. 1 seed against Sabrina Connor and Smylie, while Andrea Hurtado and Camila Agudelo won 8-0 at No. 2 against Amirah Eckles and Zsakee Crocker.
Fraser went on to win 6-0, 6-0 at the top singles position over Connor and Hurtado won 6-1, 6-o over Logan Reid at the third seed. Virginia Union's lone singles win came at the No. 2 seed where Smylie beat Daniels 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).
Marcum won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 and Agudelo rounded out the group with another 6-0, 6-0 shutout.
