PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Pikeville women's tennis team lost just one match on its way to an 8-1 win over Shawnee State (Ohio) on Thursday at the Bob Amos Complex.
The Bears (4-3, 1-1 MSC) were perfect in doubles action, starting with Sam Fraser and Callie Marcum winning 8-1 over Shelby Hay and Abby Brinkman at the No. 1 seed. UPIKE continued its success at No. 2 where Andrea Hurtado and Camila Agudelo topped Jessica Willard and Caleigh O'Neal 8-5.
UPIKE's third-seeded duo of Madison Daniels and Emma Wonn wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-0 decision over Jillian Kelly and Michaela Garner.
Shawnee tallied its lone win all the way down at the sixth seed where Garner outlasted Wonn 2-6, 6-4 (10-8).
UPIKE won the other five singles matches in straight sets with four being the most games lost in any of the action. Marcum posted the lone shutout, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Kelly at the No. 5 seed.
The Bears won eight straight matches as the sixth-seeded singles outing was the last to finish. That allowed top-seeded Fraser to collect the match-deciding win as she beat Hay 6-2, 6-3 to make the score 5-0 overall.
