PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Despite starting the match down 3-0 due to forfeits, the University of Pikeville men's tennis team rallied for six straight wins to top Alice Lloyd 6-3 on Monday at the Bob Amos Complex.
The Bears had four players available, forcing them to hand wins to the Eagles at No. 3 doubles and the fifth and sixth singles seeds.
But once the matches started on the court, UPIKE had little trouble.
It started at No. 1 doubles where Andres Alvarez and Bailey Horne topped Brit Bowling and Justin Maggard 8-0, followed by Devon Sgubin and Kenton Hall beating Daniel Minit and Carlos Nunez by the same score at No. 2.
UPIKE won 6-0, 6-0 at the second and third singles spots as Alvarez shut out Maggard and Sgubin did the same to Minit.
Horne did nearly as well at the top seed in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Bowling, while Hall outlasted Kaleb Huber 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 4 seed.
