PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- UPIKE men's soccer has now won a record six matches in a row after shutting out Shawnee State on Saturday, 2-0.
It was a fairly equal match overall, but each team had control of a half. UPIKE's started strong by putting five shots on frame, including the two that beat the keeper. Oscar Pacheco scored in the 16th minute, his second of the season, to give UPIKE the lead.
Billy Quiteno added to the lead seconds before halftime with his third goal of the season. Eric Bernabeu earned an assist on both goals.
Shawnee State made a prideful comeback attempt, holding UPIKE to just one shot while getting away four of their own, but Anibal Navarro stopped all four shots to preserve the clean sheet. The shutout is Navarro's first solo clean sheet of the season.
