PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Both UPIKE men's and women's tennis picked up a dominant win over Berea on Thursday with neither squad dropping a single individual match they participated in.

Men's

The men's team pulled off its clean sweep with a 7-2 win over the Mountaineers.

Pikeville's only two losses in the match came to forfeit for not having enough players. UPIKE cruised through the doubles matches, with Martyn Icke and Luis Gayoso winning 8-1, and Eric Bernabeu and Juan Diego Media winning with a perfect 8-0.

Most of the Bears were not tested in their singles matches either. Icke, Bernabeu, and Medina got through their matches only giving up two games or less. Gayoso won 6-3, 6-3, and Kenton Hall won 7-5, 6-0.

With the win, UPIKE moves to 3-2 on the season, 1-1 in Mid-South Conference action.

Women's

The UPIKE women were able to pull off the perfect sweep, winning 9-0.

The Bears did not surrender a single game in doubles as Andrea Hurtado and Charlie Nijenhuis, Camila Agudelo and Riley Mullins, and Ashton Jones and Sahoka Nagai all won 8-0.

It was much of the same story in singles as no Bear surrendered more than three total games in their singles match. Mullins and Nagai were able to pull off a perfect day by winning every game in both their singles and doubles match. Hurtado won 6-1, 6-0, while Jones won 6-0, 6-1. And while not perfect, Nijenhuis and Agudelo still won in dominant fashion. Nijenhuis won 6-2, 6-0 and Agudelo won 6-1, 6-2.

With the win, UPIKE moves to 6-1 on the season.

UPIKE now turns its attention back to conference play with a 3:00 match on Saturday against Cumberlands (Ky.) at home.
