CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – One tough quarter did UPIKE women's basketball in on Saturday as the Bears fell to Thomas More on Thursday, 70-51.
The Saints closed out the third quarter on a 16-3 run to create what proved to be an insurmountable lead.
While the Bears held TMU in check from the outside (20.0 3-point field goal percentage), the Saints went inside early and often (58.5 2-point field goal percentage).
After a close first quarter, Thomas More initially pulled away after some quick, questionable foul calls against the Bears that got the Saints in the bonus just two minutes into the second quarter.
Thomas More built up a 16-point lead but the Bears were able to cut that in half thanks to a pair of three-point possessions from Mary Englert and a turnaround jumper from Mia Greatrex just before halftime.
After the third quarter run UPIKE hit a couple threes from Sierra Feltner to try to spark some momentum for a comeback, but it wasn't in the cards.
Feltner led the Bears with 12 points, while Englert and Greatrex added nine and eight, respectively.
