Women’s basketball loses to Georgetown

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – UPIKE women's basketball suffered another tough loss on Saturday, losing to rival Georgetown, 83-72.

Much like Thursday's contest, the third quarter provided the deciding factor in the game as there was just a two-point margin across the other three quarters combined.

Georgetown outscored UPIKE 24-11 in the third quarter as the Tigers went both inside and to the free throw stripe frequently.

Free throws were the other deciding factor as GC displayed an uncanny ability from the stripe all day, making 28 of 30 attempts for a staggering 93 percent.

After a nearly level across the board first half and a dominant third quarter, it appeared that the momentum was entirely in Georgetown's corner; but, the Bears made a strong fourth quarter comeback.

Georgetown led by 15 with five minutes left, but then went on a 17-4 run to cut the lead down to two in the final minute.

That run had a lot of Kayla Mullins' and Brianna Burbridge's influence in it, much like the entire game.

Mullins led all scorers with a season-high 21 points on just 12 shots, also grabbing three rebounds and two assists. Burbridge was UPIKE's second leading scorer with 13 points with four rebounds.

After a questionable offensive foul call, Georgetown was able to rely on its free throw shooting to ice out the game.
