PIKEVILLE, Ky. – UPIKE women's basketball couldn't dig out of an early hole as they fell to No. 14 Lindsey Wilson on Thursday, 68-55.
LWC opened the game on a 16-2 run to build an immediate big lead. While UPIKE would draw back closer, the Blue Raiders still took a big lead into halftime.
UPIKE battled back well after halftime thanks to an offensive outburst in the third quarter. The Bears shot 75 percent in the third quarter and made all four free throws.
Three of UPIKE's nine buckets in the period came off the hand of Sierra Feltner who scored six of her eight points in the quarter. She also had five assists and three rebounds in the game.
Kayla Mullins led the Bears with 12 points. Pikeville's bigs also did work inside in the game as Elisabeth Latham, Yurleis Estrada, and Brianna Burbridge each had at least seven rebounds in the game.
UPIKE fought to cut the lead to single digits in the fourth off a 10-0 run, sparked by seven consecutive points from Alicia Sephus.
Sephus hit three consecutive shots to cancel any thought that the contest had already been decided.
Pikeville got the stop it needed on the other end, but a three-pointer rattled out to halt the rally as time ran out for the Bears.
