Women’s basketball can’t pull off upset of No. 2 Campbellsville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – UPIKE women's basketball faced a tall task in facing No. 2 Campbellsville on Saturday and came up short, losing to the Tigers 97-69.

The Bears were able to hang around with the Tigers early on thanks to some strong defense. Campbellsville shot just 26 percent in the first quarter, but hit three 3-pointers to go into the quarter break with a four-point lead.

Pikeville ended the quarter on an 8-2 run thanks in large part to Brianna Burbridge. The Frankfort native 26 points, the most by a Bear this season, and grabbed 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.

Starting in the second quarter though, the Tigers' pressure defense wreaked havoc on the Bears, forcing multiple turnovers.

Campbellsville forced 30 turnovers which turned into 45 points for the Tigers in the game.

The Tigers were led by Savannah Gregory who had 21 points and a team high sharing seven rebounds in the game. Gregory was part of a big boost that Campbellsville got from their outside shooting in the contest. CU hit 12 3-pointers in the game, shooting 46 percent in the process.

Dora Odia was another bright spot for the Bears, going 5-7 from the floor to score 10 points and with three assists and two rebounds.

This game concludes a three-game homestand for the Bears, who hit the road next week to take on Cumberland and Life on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
