Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville men's soccer team fell at home Saturday afternoon to the visiting Thomas More University Saints, 4-2. The two goals are a season-high for UPIKE as freshman
Anthony Aguilar netted both goals. These are the first two tallies of his UPIKE career. After falling behind 3-1 at halftime, the Bears cut it to one in the 52nd minute but weren't able to come up with the equalizer.
The loss drops them to 0-7 on the year and 0-4 in the Mid-South Conference. They return to the field next Friday in Pikeville when they host the Cumberland University Phoenix at 2:00 p.m. on the Bob Amos Grass Field.
Aguilar Scores A Pair
The Bears fell behind 2-0 in the game after the Saints found the net in the 13th and 29th minutes.
UPIKE's first goal came after Aguilar had just checked into the contest.
Jack Burleson had a throw in from the sideline where he put the ball over a few defenders before it bounced up off Aguilar's chest before corralling it and finding the net to make it a 2-1 deficit in the 32nd minute.
The Saints found a late goal in the first half to send it to the break at 3-1. In the 52nd minute, the Bears retook possession where
Juan Lopez Dela Paz passed it to
Javier Pozas. Pozas than sent a beautiful pass over the defense, where the Saints keeper came too far out of the net, and Aguilar beat him back to the ball and scored his second goal to make it 3-2.
Unfortunately for UPIKE, that would be all they would get and Thomas More would add another tally in their 4-2 victory.
What's Up Next
As mentioned, UPIKE will get some time off before hitting the pitch on Friday, October 8th against the Cumberland Phoenix in Pikeville at 2:00 p.m.
