Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bethel Fights Past UPIKE In Rainy Contest

Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville men's soccer team lost at home Thursday night to Bethel University, 5-0. It was a rainy game from the start, with rain off and on throughout the contest. This drops the Bears to 1-11 overall and 1-8 in the Mid-South Conference.

Despite the loss, UPIKE took 14 shots, with seven on goal. Fourteen is the most they have taken since their season-opener on Sep. 11 against Bluefield, where they took 17. Seven shots on goal is their most since they took eight at Midway on Sep. 14. It's the most shots and shots on goal they have taken all season against a Mid-South Conference opponent.

Bethel scored four of their goals in the first half, scoring in the 22nd, 33rd, 40th, and 44th minutes of the contest. The first two goals came off corner kicks, while their final goal came in the 81st minute.

For UPIKE, their best looks came in the second half where they had five shots on goal. They had a penalty kick that was missed, before sending a flurry of shots on goal. In a less than two-minute span, David Rowe sent a rocket that Bethel keeper Alejandro Costales made a beautiful save on before just a few moments later, Javier Pozas hit the right post on a shot. Anthony Aguilar followed this up with a shot on goal, but the Bears weren't able to find the net. Two more shots on goal came late in the contest for UPIKE from Logan Cales and Evan Vanlierop, but Costales made two more saves.
