UPIKE Drops Thriller To Freed-Hardeman

Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville men's soccer team lost to Freed-Hardeman 2-1 on Saturday evening in a hard-fought match. Victor Vechi scored the lone goal for the Bears on a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1 in the 27th minute. This was the first goal of his UPIKE career.

The game was tied throughout the next 62 minutes before the Lions found the game-winner in the 89th minute to take home the victory. UPIKE had some looks down the stretch to take the lead, but couldn't find the back of the net. After falling behind 2-1, they had one more opportunity on a free-kick but sent the shot high.

For the second game in a row the Bears took 14 shots with four coming on goal. Jalen Smith and Gabriel Torres played well between the pipes recording five and four saves respectively, including several highly difficult saves throughout the contest. The Lions took 21 shots, with 11 on goal, with two shots off the crossbar in the second half. The Bears also had a shot off the crossbar coming from Javier Posas in the first half, while Alejandro Swanton and David Rowe also had good looks in the game.
