Several Top Performances Push Bears to Runner-Up Title at Thomas Burris Memorial

Louisville, KY – Men's bowling notched another top-finish Sunday afternoon, earning the runner-up spot in the 23-team Thomas N Burris Invitational. Benjamin Bailey followed up on Saturday's career finish with an individual runner-up performance on Sunday to lead the Bears.

UPIKE's varsity unit knocked down 7865 pins overall in the tournament which featured five team games followed by 12 baker matches. The Bears notched scores of 973, 1091, 1115, 1073, and 1089 to total 5341 pins in the team games. In baker play, UPIKE managed a score of 2524 which landed them in second in the final count. Webber International claimed the top spot by just 15 pins.

The Bears also managed a pair of top-five finishes in the JV bracket, led by the JV1 unit which finished runner-up out of 12 teams. The JV1 squad carded the second highest score through the team games with their game two score of 1125 being the highest single-game score of the team events. JV1 totaled 7203 pins in the final count for the second-place finish. JV2 finished fourth in the 12-team field with a score of 6688.

Three Bears finished in the top-20 paced by Bailey who bested Saturday's fifth place finish with an individual runner-up performance on Sunday. Bailey recorded scores of 226, 225, 246, 218, 241 to total 1156. The impressive feat is highlighted by the massive 200+ field of competition.

Finishing 13th was Matteo Cittadino who aided the varsity squad with his total of 1094 in the team event, his highest score coming in game three where he bowled a 225. JV1 bowler Chris LeSuer rounded out the top-20 list for the Bears, finishing 17th with a score of 1085.

UPIKE men's bowling returns to the lanes Saturday, November 6th as they head to Marietta, GA to compete in the Brunswick Southern tournament.
