Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville men's basketball team won their season-opener Saturday evening in the UPIKE Gym, 91-55 against Virginia University-Lynchburg. It was homecoming weekend for the University of Pikeville, as there was a large crowd on hand for the Bears, making a big impact on the game.
Five Bears scored double-digit points in the contest, with
Korbin Spencer leading the way with 17 while
Darius Love and
Kevin Bishop II both had 15 points. This was Bishop II's UPIKE debut.
Kenyon Duling (13 points) and
Maurice Dickson (11 points) also impressed in their debuts for the Bears.
The win moves UPIKE to 1-0 to begin the season, as they will be back in action on Tuesday evening against Simmons College in Pikeville.
After the Dragons took an early lead, UPIKE tied it at 10-10 before using a 26-3 run to begin to run away with the game at 36-13. The Bears took a 40-18 lead into the halftime break.
They never looked back in the second half, putting up 51 more points en route to their 91-55 win.

The Bears grabbed 36 total rebounds in the game, dished out 21 assists, recorded an impressive 15 steals, and blocked three shots. Spencer led the team with seven rebounds while Bishop II led with five assists. They shot 55.4% from the field, knocking down 36 shots in the contest.
