Box Score Henderson, TN - The University of Pikeville women's volleyball team fell in their conference opener to Freed-Hardeman University Friday night 3-0. After dropping the first set 15-25, the final two sets were back and forth affairs. Set two was a classic, but unfortunately, the Bears lost 29-31 before losing the final set 24-26.

Hunter Clewis led the Bears with her third double-double of the season, recording 11 kills and a season-high 20 digs. Yeryvel Catala also added 10 kills for UPIKE, while Cheyenne Martinez led the Bears with 28 assists in the contest.

The Bears fall to 0-11 on the season and 0-1 in the Mid-South Conference. They will be back in action next Thursday when they travel to Georgetown University to take on the Tigers at 6:00 p.m.

Hard Fought Sets
After losing the first set 25-15, UPIKE and Freed-Hardeman proceeded to play an incredible set two that saw the momentum swing several times. Late in the set, it wasn't clear who would come away with the win. Unfortunately for UPIKE, with the score tied 29-29, the Lions came out on top 31-29 after an attack error ended the set.

In the final game, UPIKE led late but was not able to pull away and win the set, leading to another game going to extra points in which Freed-Hardeman won 26-24.

What's Up Next
As mentioned, after the loss, UPIKE falls to 0-11 on the season and 0-1 in the MSC. They will have an opportunity to even up their MSC record as they take on Georgetown University on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 6:00 p.m. in Georgetown.
