Archery Wraps Up Successful Weekend with Podium Finish at MSC 3D Championships

Williamsburg, KY – UPIKE Archery wrapped up the 2021 MSC 3D Archery Championships on Sunday with 12 podium finishers and a gold medal in the men's bowhunter team event. The Bears finished third overall in the 10-team field, totaling 111 points.

Prior to the MSC 3D competition, the Bears were in London, KY at the 3D Regionals which saw several top-notch performances. Several school marks were set as Kynsley Redmon, Silas Ratliff, Emma Terry, Anastasia McFarland, and Bella Barrett all notched their names in the record books.

Both Terry and AJ Clements were crowned regional champions in Friday's competition, with Silas Ratliff piecing together an impressive runner-up effort in the men's bowhunter. Terry scored a 310, hitting one bound ring to win by three points.

Clements took gold in the Olympic Recurve, scoring 201 in the first round. The junior finished with a 404, hitting 13 bonus rings to win by 10 points.

Ratliff scored a 415 in the men's bowhunter event, scoring 212 in round 1 before hitting a 203 in the second round. Ratliff edged out the third place finisher by one bonus ring to take the runner-up spot.
 
Overall the Bears secured one gold, five silver, and six bronze medals to earn the third-place finish.

Highlighting the team performances was the men's bowhunter squad who claimed the gold medal, defeating University of the Cumberlands in the championship. The Bears started the bracket against Bethel, outscoring the Wildcats 184-141 before trumping Union College 188-184. The performance is the first gold medal in the men's bowhunter in program history.

In the individual shootdowns, Thomas Olson earned his first podium finish for the Bears with a runner-up finish in the men's barebow. Olson finished with a 50, five points behind the first-place finisher, tallying eight points for the Bears.

Bella Barrett also delivered a runner-up performance in the shootdowns, scoring a 58 in the women's recurve. Anastasia McFarland also UPIKE points after finishing fourth in the women's recurve.

Silas Ratliff notched a podium finish in the individual shootdowns as well, finishing third in the men's bowhunter with a 66.

Team rounds saw the Bears claim silver in the women's bowhunter after defeating Cumberlands 186-182 to advance to the championship match. UPIKE fell to Lindsey Wilson in the final match to take the silver medal.

The women's compound team landed on the podium as well, advancing to the championship match after defeating Union College 178-172. The team finished runner-up, taking a silver medal after dropping to Cumberlands in the final match.

In the men's recurve team rounds, the Bears pulled off a 159-153 victory over Cumberlands to advance to the championship match with Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders pulled off a 176-156 win to give the Bears a silver medal finish.

Earning bronze medals was the men's compound, barebow, mixed barebow, women's recurve and mixed recurve teams.

The Bears look ahead to 3D Nationals that are set for October 14th-17th in Foley, AL.
