Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bears Held Scoreless By Tigers on the Road

Georgetown, KY – UPIKE men's soccer traveled to Georgetown Tuesday afternoon to face off with the Tigers, falling 5-0 in a game that the Bears trailed early. The loss drops UPIKE to 0-5 on the season.

The Tigers got on the board early at Toyota Stadium, striking in the sixth minute after missing their first attempt high. The Bears struggled to bring the ball on the attacking end, leaving matters in the hands of Jalen Smith in goal who got to work with back-to-back saves in the 11th and 12th minutes.

17 minutes into the contest Georgetown went up 2-0 but the Bears defense would hold them scoreless for almost 20 minutes following the second goal. The Bears legged a pair of corner kicks during that span but were stopped from putting a shot on goal.

Seven minutes before the half came to a close, the Tigers struck once more to make it 3-0.

Smith managed a pair of athletic saves in the first ten minutes of the second period, working to push back the attack from Georgetown. The Tigers found net in the 54th and 71st minutes, extending their lead to 5-0.

The Tiger's sixth goal came on a penalty opportunity in the 79th minute. Adam Di Millo relieved Smith in goal in the 81st minute and held strong for the Bears, recording his first save almost immediately. Georgetown made it 7-0 with a goal in the 89th minute and the damage was done.

Overall, the Bears were shutout in the shots column while Georgetown shot 34 times with 19 going on goal. Smith finished with 10 saves while Di Millo recorded a pair.

The Bears will be back in action Thursday evening as they head to Johnson City, TN to take on the Milligan Buffaloes at 5:00 p.m.
