Brunswick, GA - The University of Pikeville women's volleyball team dropped their first match Friday afternoon, 3-0 against Bryan College in the Captain Jack Quad at the College of Coastal Georgia.
The Lions were dominant in the match, taking the three sets by scores of 25-6, 25-12, and 25-9.
Hunter Clewis led the Bears with five kills while
Mikela Cook had four digs and
Leigh Johnson had eight assists.
In the nightcap, the Bears dropped their match 3-0 against Coastal Georgia to fall to 0-8 on the season. Clewis led the team with seven kills while
Leigh Johnson provided 10 digs and
Cheyenne Martinez dished out 13 assists.
UPIKE will be back in action Saturday morning when they take on Florida College at 9:00 a.m. before battling Coastal Georgia once again at 4:30 p.m.
Bryan College defeats Pikeville (25-6, 25-12, 25-9)
The Lions got out to large leads in all three sets against the Bears and never looked back in their 3-0 victory.
College of Coastal Georgia defeats Pikeville (25-15, 25-16, 25-15)
Set one was a back and forth affair with the Mariners holding a slim 13-11 advantage before an 8-3 Coastal Georgia run gave them a 21-14 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Set two was a similar story as the Mariners held a 13-11 lead before a 7-1 flurry put them in control at 20-12. UPIKE couldn't make the comeback as they dropped the set 25-16 and fell behind 2-0 in the match.
Coastal Georgia controlled the final set from the start, jumping out to a 21-10 lead before ending the set at 25-15 and the match 3-0.
