Bears Topple Blue Raiders In Columbia

Columbia, KY – The University of Pikeville men's basketball team picked up their fourth road win of the season Monday afternoon at Lindsey Wilson, 66-54. This is the second straight game where the Bears held their opponent to under 60 points. Teams are averaging just 64.6 points a game against the Bears this season.

UPIKE was guided by Maurice Dickson, who led all scorers with a season-high 17 points in the win while Kenyon Duling scored 16 and Jacob Brown added 11. Dickson, Korbin Spencer, and Taevon Horton all had a team-high six rebounds while Horton also led with four assists.

The Bears move to 14-4 on the season and 7-3 in the Mid-South Conference, where they sit in fourth place. They play a team ahead of them in the standings when they travel to Georgetown College on Thursday night.

How It Happened
The Blue Raiders grabbed their largest lead of the game midway through the first half after a Jamyus Jones three made it 15-9. An 8-2 run erased the deficit and tied the game at 17-17 with 5:01 to play in the half. Darius Love had three points during this stretch.

A Kevin Bishop II layup made the score 21-19 and the Bears were off to the races. They ended the half on an 11-3 push to send the game into the break with UPIKE leading 30-22.

The Bears held a strong lead throughout the second half, with the Blue Raiders getting as close as seven. UPIKE led by as many as 17 with 7:37 to play at 53-36. UPIKE shot a solid 42.3% in the second half before coming away with the 66-54 victory.

After not scoring in the first half, Duling knocked down five shots, including a pair of threes and four free throws to earn his 16 points during the second half. Duling now leads the team with 174 points this season.

The Bears forced 10 turnovers in the game, and had seven steals, with three coming from Dickson. UPIKE held Lindsey Wilson to 20-58 shooting (34.5%) and dominated in points in the paint (38-20).

What's Up Next
As mentioned, the Bears will travel to Georgetown College on Thursday for an 8:00 p.m. game against the Tigers.

Earlier this season on Nov. 20, UPIKE played a strong game against Georgetown to come away with the 72-66 win, their first against the Tigers since the 2017-18 season. They will be looking to beat Georgetown two times in a season for the first time since 2013-14 where they went 2-1 against the Tigers.
