How It Happened
The Tigers made four threes to start the game, which was a sign of things to come, taking a quick 12-5 lead less than four minutes into the contest. They would end the night with 13 made threes and shot 54.2% from beyond the arc.
They would stretch their lead out to 30-18 before the Bears tried to chip away. An 8-3 flurry cut the lead to seven at 33-26 with 3:15 to play in the first half. Brown had four points during this stretch. Georgetown would grow their lead back out to 12 at 40-28 with under a minute to play, but a late
Jordan Perry jumper and a steal and layup by Horton would give UPIKE momentum heading into the break.
The Bears played well coming out of the half, using a 15-7 run to cut the lead to just four at 47-43 with 16:22 to play. They forced the Tigers into foul trouble early in the half and would find themselves in the bonus with 13:46 to play in the game.
Unfortunately for UPIKE, Derrin Boyd came to play in the second half. The Tigers leading scorer put up 18 in the half, including four threes on five attempts. He scored eight of the next 10 for Georgetown as they extended their lead back out to 57-47 with 13:04 to play.
This lead would grow to 70-56 before the Bears tried to make one final push. They used a 9-2 run to cut it back down to seven at 72-65 with 4:41 left in the game. The stretch was captained by Bishop II who had six points and scored eight of his 12 in the second half. This was as close as UPIKE would get as the Tigers ended the game on a 14-2 run to win 86-67.
Despite the loss, the Bears shot 53.2% from the field in the game, their fifth-best shooting percentage of the season and best in conference play.
