Georgetown, KY – UPIKE women's basketball fell 87-65 to Georgetown Thursday evening despite three Bears finishing with double-digits in the scoring column.
The duo of
Morgan Stamper and
Mary Englert combined for 32 points, dropping 16 a piece to lead the Bears. Stamper added 10 rebounds to total 14 double-doubles on the season, passing former All-American teammate
Brianna Burbridge. Englert finished with seven boards and led the team with four assists.
Alexis Reed shot well from deep in the loss, going 3-4 from beyond the arc, finishing with 13 points.
The Tigers had the best outing from the floor, shooting 52% as a team while the Bears finished at 36%. In rebounds it was a slight advantage UPIKE, 40-39.
The Bears opened the contest with momentum, taking an early lead in the first minute before being matched by the Tigers. Stamper and Englert teamed up to put the Bears up 10-5 with solid play in the paint and at the free throw line but the Tigers would storm back and take a 13-12 lead with 2:37 to go in the first.
After ending the first with a 7-2 run, Georgetown would not give up the lead for the remainder of the contest. The Tigers shot a stellar 54% from the floor in the second half, outscoring the Bears 28-10 in the paint.
