Frazier's Season High Performance Leads Bears to Fourth Straight Win Over Patriots

Pikeville, KY – UPIKE women's basketball tallied their fourth straight win on Monday evening, ringing in the new year with a 70-68 win over University of the Cumberlands. The Bears have won five of their last six games, including two over top-25 opponents.

After averaging 35% in the first half from the field, the Bears cleaned up to shoot an impressive 48% over the next 20 minutes. UPIKE claimed the rebounding battle 35-29, including an incredible 18 offensive boards.

Bailey Frazier continued to show herself as a capable scoring threat, leading all scorers in the game with 21 points. Frazier added five rebounds and a pair of blocks in the win as well. Tallying her 10th double-double of the season was MSC Player of the Week Morgan Stamper who dropped 11 points, adding 12 rebounds.

The Patriots battled the entire contest, trumping the Bears the majority of the first half including almost the entirety of the opening quarter. A surge in the second quarter would reinsert the Bears into contention but the first half was won by the Patriots as they headed into the locker room up 32-28.

The Patriots stood solid, leading most of the contest and outscoring the Bears in three of the four quarters. The fourth quarter effort was all it took though for the Bears, soaring for a 10-point advantage over the Patriots in the period to complete the comeback victory. The final quarter was commanded by Frazier who scored eight of her 21 points in the period.

UPIKE women's basketball returns to the friendly confines of Appalachian Wireless Arena on Thursday, January 6th at 6PM against Bethel.
