Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Feltner's Shooting Leads the Way in Win Over (RV) Freed-Hardeman

Pikeville, KY – Women's basketball won their second straight contest Monday night, taking down (RV) Freed-Hardeman 62-50 at home. The Bears improve their record to 12-10 (6-9 MSC).

Coach Williams' squad has now beaten four teams ranked or receiving votes in the top-25, most recently (4) Campbellsville on Saturday.

Sierra Feltner had the hot hand and led the team with 17 points, playing all but three minutes of the contest. The Williamsburg, KY native went 7-18 from the field, hitting a season high three triples and eight rebounds.

Mary Englert recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 6-12 from the floor. Morgan Stamper finished with 12 points and 17 rebounds which is good for her 15th double-double of the season.

Jumping off the stat sheet for UPIKE was the rebounding advantage 45-25 and the Bears' 12 second chance points. Work on the offensive glass helped the Bears make the push they needed in the second quarter while the Lions threatened the lead.

The first quarter opened with an 8-0 run by UPIKE, in which five points came via Feltner. The Bears led the entirety of the first despite the Lions making it a one possession game several times. UPIKE jumped back up by seven in the second quarter as points from Leeanna Mcnulty and Bailey Frazier thrusted the Bears momentum but Freed-Hardeman fired back late in the period. The Lions would tie the game at 2:55, taking their first lead just over a minute later.

After trailing 27-25 at the break, the Bears fought in the opening minutes of the third and tied the game twice. Englert flushed a three with 6:36 to make it 32 all then under two minutes later a Frazier free throw returned the lead back to the Bears. Feltner splashed a triple with 2:44 to go to put the Bears up five and Stamper would later connect on a pair of free throws to put the Bears ahead 43-38 heading into the final quarter.

The Lions threatened within two points just once in the fourth but solid shooting kept UPIKE ahead throughout the period. In the final minute the Bears hit nine free throws to secure the win.

UPIKE women's basketball returns to the hardwood on Thursday, February 3rd as they head to Crestview Hills, KY for a matchup with (1) Thomas More.
