Women's Basketball Cruises Past Shawnee in Third Straight Win

Pikeville, KY – Women's basketball extended the win streak to three Saturday afternoon with a convincing 85-52 victory over Shawnee State. UPIKE improves to 13-10 (7-9 MSC).

The Bears in orange dominated most facets of the game, especially in the rebounding category where they snagged 45 boards to SSU's 21. UPIKE compiled one of their best shooting efforts of the season, finishing with a 48% clip from the field including 11-22 from beyond the arc.

UPIKE was led by Bailey Frazier who finished one point shy of a season high with 20 points, shooting 7-11 from the floor. Frazier flushed four from deep and finished with eight rebounds and three assists. Also stepping up for UPIKE was Sierra Feltner who continued to grow her role in the offense after a 17 point effort against Freed-Hardeman. Feltner finished with 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Leeanna Mcnulty also finished in double digits with 14 points, snagging seven rebounds.

After a relatively slow start in the first quarter, the Bears began to open the floor via three point shooting. Alexis Reed and Feltner combined for four threes in the first quarter as UPIKE outscored SSU 20-14.

The second quarter saw UPIKE really fall into rhythm, shooting 67% from the field. The Bears went on an 8-3 run following the first minute of the period and would hold SSU to just seven points in the period.

UPIKE continued to dominate in the final two quarters, outscoring SSU 47-31 through the last 20 minutes of play. Every active player on the Bears' roster got involved in the scoring effort including Sheridan Robbins, Abby Adkins, and Bailey Birchfield who scored two a piece.

The Bears return to action on Monday, February 7th as they hit the road for an MSC matchup with University of the Cumberlands.
