Di Millo And Naiker Shine In Loss To Lindsey Wilson

Pikeville, Ky. - The UPIKE men's soccer team had their final home game of the 2022 season tonight and were defeated 3-1 by the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders.

Tonight being the final home game meant it was senior night at Bob Amos. Seniors Yuri Rocha, Ivan Perez, Victor Vechi, Jack Burleson and Travis Caudill were all recognized tonight. Caudill started the game in net tonight and got an applause from the UPIKE fans and players for his help to the program.

Shortly after Caudill's recognition, Adam Di Millo was subbed in and the Bears went to work. The Blue Raiders got an early corner kick opportunity but the Bears defense held up. UPIKE quickly went from defense to offense as Anthony Aguilar connected with Thivesh Naiker on a breakaway to give UPIKE the early 1-0 lead. Naiker's third goal of the season happened in the 2', the earliest goal the Bears have scored all season.

On the other end of the field, goalie Adam Di Millo made 11 saves on twelve attempts for the Bears in net. The lone first half Blue Raider goal came by way of a penalty shot in the 39'. The two sides would go into halftime level at 1-1 with Lindsey Wilson holding a 19-1 advantage in shots.

An early second-half lapse by the UPIKE defense gave the Blue Raiders a 2-1 in the 48'. Despite no longer having the lead, the Bears dug their heels in and kept fighting. The Bears had 10 second-half shot attempts (3 on goal) but could not tie the game. Their best chance to tie it came off the foot of Richard Wohl in the 82'. Lindsey Wilson would seal the win shortly after with a goal in the 87' and won the match 3-1.

Bears goalkeeper Adam Di Millo had a great performance tonight and recorded 11 saves. Di Millo's play in net tonight kept the Bears in the game until the very end. Just as important tonight was the Bears defense as a whole, having recorded three defensive saves. On offense, Richard Wohl and Thivesh Naiker had three shots on goal each tonight, followed by Anthony Aguilar with two.

With tonight's loss, the Bears close out their home schedule for the season but will pick it back up Wednesday evening against Salem University on the road.
