Indianapolis, Ind. – Women's bowling won their second consecutive tournament over the weekend, besting 25 teams at the Columbia 300 Western Shootout. UPIKE claimed four of the top five individual spots including
Brianna Rogers who earns her first individual title.
The varsity unit knocked down 8859 pins, a dominant 513 pin advantage over runner-up Trine University. The event featured 26 teams and was formatted with six team games on Saturday followed by 16 baker games on Sunday. The Bears dropped 5729 pins in team play, carrying a huge lead into baker play where they soared to the title finish.
UPIKE's JV1 squad championed their third straight event, topping the five-team leaderboard with 7811 pins. JV2 finished third with 7385 pins while St. Francis claimed runner-up.
Brianna Rogers, a freshman from South Carolina, earns her first ever collegiate tournament title. Her 1237 pin total through six games topped teammate and runner-up finisher
Kristina Catoe by 38 pins. Rogers was the only bowler to average above 200, finishing at 206.2 pins per game. Her 247-pin performance in game four was the second highest single game score of the tournament behind teammate
Emily Tull's 252.
Catoe nabbed runner-up with an average of 199.8 pins per game, recording her 11
th career top-five finish. Game four saw the junior total 214 pins which was her best of the event. Tull placed third with an 1187-pin total, averaging 197.8 pins.
Vanessa Fuzie rounded out the top five and all-tournament winners, totaling 1170 pins, the junior averaged 195 pins.
Newcomer Ava McLaughlin impressed, recording the best individual finish from the JV unit, landing at 25
th. The Las Vegas native totaled 1062 pins.
Erin Thibeault and
Kadie Dicken finished in the top 30 at 27
th and 28
th, respectively.
