Pikeville, Ky. - The University of Pikeville Bears returned to action today and were defeated by the University of Tennessee-Southern Firehawks 8-0 at Bob Amos.
Francisco Medina got the UPIKE attack started with a shot on net in the 1' but did not score. The Firehawks countered with a few great looks of their own, but they all went high and wide. UPIKE countered with shots from Benjamin Mclauchlan and Thivesh Naiker but neither found the back of the net.
Shortly after, the Firehawks attack found their rhythm. UT-Southern would score three goals in six minutes to go up 3-0 after just 19 minutes of play. The onslaught of Firehawk shots and scoring chances continued throughout the first half, which ended 4-0 after UT-Southern added another goal.
Just six minutes into the second half, the Firehawks knocked in another tally to go up 5-0. They continued to pour on the shots and added two more scores later on in the 66' and 69'. UT-Southern added one more goal late in the match and kept the Bears off the scoresheet and took this one 8-0.
Following this afternoon's loss, the Bears record falls to 4-8-1 (0-5-1 MSC). The Bears next match will take place Wednesday evening when the Campbellsville Tigers roll into Bob Amos.
