Lexington, Ky. - The University of Pikeville Bears traveled to Lexington, Ky. tonight for an exhibition matchup against the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
Mary Englert scored the points for the Bears and Sierra Feltner hit the first three-point shot for UPIKE. The Bears struggled offensively in the first half but did much better in the second half. After only scoring 14 first-half points, the Bears scored 31 in the second behind very good free-throw shooting.
Mary Englert led the Bears with 12 points. Englert also finished the game with three rebounds. Sierra Feltner led the Bears in rebounds (7), assists (2) and had five points. Morgan Stamper and Hailey Free both finished the game with five rebounds each. Free also had six points.
After the game, UPIKE Head Coach Clifton Williams talked about how he was pleased with the toughness his team showed tonight against the Wildcats. Prior to UPIKE, Coach Williams spent some time at the University of Kentucky and this was his first time coaching against the Wildcats as the UPIKE head coach.
Next up for the Bears is a non-conference matchup against Rio Grande at UPIKE Gym on Saturday afternoon. Saturday's contest with the Red Storm will be the Bears' home opener for the 2022 season.
