MSC Polar Plunge Site
Pikeville, KY – UPIKE's Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) has kicked off the 2022 MSC Polar Plunge For Special Olympics. The program provides opportunity for student-athletes to support local Special Olympics.
The challenge began on Tuesday, January 18
th and runs through March 15
th.
"We're excited to work with the Mid-South Conference on the Mid-South Polar Plunge again this year," said Special Olympics Kentucky President and CEO Trish Mazzoni.

So far, women's basketball, men's golf, softball, baseball, among others have signed up to participate in the challenge. Each student-athlete is challenged to raise $75 or more in order to take "The Plunge" and receive a commemorative t-shirt. Teams raising over $500 will see their coach take the cold dip and finally if a department raises over $5,000 the athletic director and president must take "The Plunge".
"Sports is a very powerful connector in our society and it has been great to have Mid-South athletes come to us with the idea for and to continue this program. The benefits that Special Olympics athletes across the Mid-South Conference footprint receive from this event are immense", Mazzoni added."
UPIKE Athletics was the top earner in the 2021 Polar Plunge Cup, raising $12,643.15 and beating out 75 other schools. Right now the women's basketball team in the frontrunner for UPIKE with $134.00 raised.
