Henderson, TN – The University of Pikeville softball team dropped a pair of games Thursday evening at No. 4 Freed-Hardeman University, 4-0 and 4-1.
UPIKE was shut down in game one, managing a pair of hits off Lions starter Morgan Crawford. It was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning where Freed-Hardeman plated three runs. The Bears best chance to score came in the final frame when
Kendall Hillard ripped a two-out double to left field in the top of the seventh inning, but ultimately was stranded.
In the nightcap, the game was scoreless until the Lions clawed across a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Bears trailed 3-0 before plating a run in the top of the sixth. After a pair of singles from
Sophie Kluesner and
Lillie Kluesner to begin the inning, they would advance into scoring position at second and third.
Carrie Boyd would then have an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 3-1. That was as close as UPIKE would come though, falling 4-1 in the game.
