Henderson, TN – The University of Pikeville softball team lost a pair of games to No. 4 Freed-Hardeman University on Friday afternoon, 16-1 and 4-3.
In game one, the Lions grabbed an 8-0 lead after two innings and never looked back en route to their 16-1 victory in five innings.
Sophie Kluesner provided the lone hit for UPIKE.
The second game saw the Bears hold a 3-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Their first run came by way of an error before
Sophie Kluesner hit an RBI single to make it 2-0. The Lions would score one in the bottom of the fifth before a
Megan Nethercutt walk with the bases loaded brought in a run to make it 3-1.
However, Freed-Hardeman hit a game-tying two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh before winning it in the 10th. UPIKE had a few opportunities in extra innings with runners at third base, but weren't able to bring a run home.

Zoe Ingram both had a pair of hits in game two.

The Bears return to Paul Butcher Field on Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader with the Alice Lloyd College Eagles beginning at 1:00 p.m. These teams met six times last season with UPIKE winning four of the matchups.
