Bears Sweep Alice Lloyd On Tuesday Afternoon

Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville softball team swept the visiting Alice Lloyd College Eagles at Paul Butcher Field Tuesday afternoon, 9-1 and 7-4. Carrie Boyd led the team with two RBI in game one while Haleigh Jones picked up a team high two RBI in the second game.

The win improves UPIKE to 7-13 overall this season as they return to action on Thursday afternoon against Miami University Hamilton.

Game One
UPIKE took a 6-0 lead after the first three innings of the first game, picking up two in the first, three in the second and one in the third.

A pair of RBI groundouts by Boyd and Alyssa Franklin brought in the runs in the first inning. The second saw a Lillie Kluesner sacrifice fly, a run on a wild pitch and a Boyd RBI double. Jamie Pollard doubled in a run in the third to achieve the 6-0 score.

Two more runs came in the fourth off an error before the Bears mercy ruled the Eagles in the fifth, 9-1. Mattea Ware only allowed two hits while striking out three in the win.

Game Two
The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first after a homer, triple and passed ball brought in runs. UPIKE answered right back though with four runs of their own to take a 4-3 lead heading into the second. Kendall Hillard and Franklin both hit RBI doubles while Zoe Ingram walked and got in a run down to allow Franklin to score before Jones hit an RBI double.

Jones would bring in another run in the bottom of the third to make it 5-3 before the final two runs scored on a wild pitch and interference. Katlyn Mullins struck out five in a complete game for her first win of the season. Seven Bears had two or more hits in the two-game sweep.

What's Up Next
