Oliver Notches Top Finish; Punches Ticket to USBC ISC Nationals

Smyrna, TN – Mens bowler Bryce Oliver put together a career performance on Friday at the USBC ITC Sectionals on Friday, placing first out of 175 bowlers. Oliver earns a trip to the Intercollegiate Singles Championship in April, becoming the fourth individual in program history to qualify.

Oliver, a sophomore from Cuyahoga Falls, bowled a 1446 through six team games for an average of 241 pins per game. In the fourth game, Oliver bowled a perfect 300 game which was the highest score of the competition. The national qualifier topped 200 in each game bowled and finished 173 pins ahead of the runner-up.

The ISC Sectionals takes the top six individuals from each of the four sectional sites, with all 24 bowlers competing in a series of six qualifying games to determine the seeding for match-play brackets. The top eight athletes following the six games will receive byes in match play. Qualifying athletes will then play three-game total-pin matches. Match play continues until the four qualifiers for the semifinals are determined, the semifinal and finals will consist of one game matches to determine a champion.

The team competed in the ITC Sectionals the next two days weekend and despite being just 90 pins back from qualifying position coming into the final 15 games, would finish sixth. The Bears did not qualify for the Intercollegiate Team Championships. UPIKE knocked down 12113 pins through 64 team games.
