Bluefield, WV – Men's tennis stepped out of MSC play Friday afternoon for a dual with Bluefield State, falling 6-1 to the Big Blue.
Doubles began with
Juan Diego Alzate and
Mirko Dedich falling to Juan Manuel De Freitas and Frederik Bau-Madsen at No.1 by a score of 6-2.
Martin Lorenzo and
Valentin Ortiz fared better at No. 2, winning their match 7-6 (4). The No. 3 saw
Fernando Proano and
Juan Diego Medina fall 6-1 as the Big Blue claimed the first point of the match.
At No. 1 singles, Ortiz fell to Bau-Madsen 0-2 (6-4, 7-5) before Alzate went three sets in the No. 2 but fell 2-1. Alzate started off with a 7-5 win in the first set before falling 6-4 in the second set. After the dual was decided, they played a single game to ten in lieu of a final set in which he dropped 10-7.
Dedich fell by scores of 6-3, 6-4 in the No.3 and Medina was defeated 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5. Lorenzo claimed the only point for the Bears in the dual, defeating Fernando Arguello 2-0 (6-3, 6-0).
The Bears return to action on Sunday, March 20th as they head to Columbia, Ky. for an MSC matchup with (9) Lindsey Wilson College.
