Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville softball team lost both games of their doubleheader against Cumberland University Saturday afternoon, 6-1 and 13-2. UPIKE struggled offensively, only having one RBI in the two games which came from
Zoe Ingram.
They fall to 10-16 overall and 1-11 in the Mid-South Conference. They return to play against Campbellsville University on the road next Friday in a doubleheader.
Game One
Ingram hit an RBI single into right center field to give the Bears a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. This scored
Alexis Roby, who got the inning started with a walk.
Cumberland stormed back however and a trio of homeruns provided their runs as they earned their eventual 6-1 victory. UPIKE had runners in scoring position on a few occasions down the stretch, but couldn't bring anyone home.
Lillie Kluesner and Ingram had a pair of hits in the contest.
Game Two
The Bears fell behind 2-0 in the third inning before answering with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. A pair of singles from
Kendall Hillard and Roby began the inning. With two outs, Hillard attempted to steal third base before the pitch and the throw from the pitcher went into left field which brought Hillard home. Ingram then reached on an error by the second basemen which brought Roby home to tie the game at 2-2. Hillard and Roby both had two hits in the game.
The Phoenix put the game away with 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to win 13-2.

UPIKE gets some time off before they look to get back on track in their next series at Campbellsville University beginning on Friday, March 25th at 2:00 p.m. They will then play on Saturday, March 26th beginning at noon.
